Eligibility Details
- Class 10th pass with an NCVT/SCVT ITI certificate in an approved trade, or a completed Act Apprenticeship in the same trade.
- Class 10th pass with a three-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile Engineering is also accepted.
- BE/B.Tech in the listed engineering branches can be used instead of the Diploma qualification.

RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) 2026: Selection Process & Exam Pattern
1. First Stage CBT (CBT-I)
- The screening test has 75 questions for 75 marks.
- Candidates receive 60 minutes to complete the paper.
- Subjects include Mathematics, Mental Ability and General Science.
- One-third mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
- CBT-I marks are used for shortlisting and do not form part of the final merit.
2. Second Stage CBT (CBT-II)
- CBT-II contains 175 questions and runs for 2 hours 30 minutes.
- Part-A has 100 questions to be completed in 90 minutes.
- Part-B is a qualifying trade paper with 75 questions and a 60-minute limit.
- Candidates need at least 35% in Part-B. One-third negative marking applies to both parts.
3. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
- RRB shortlists candidates up to eight times the category-wise vacancies using CBT-II Part-A marks.
- A minimum T-score of 42 is needed in every test battery.
- CBAT has no negative marking.
4. Document Verification and Medical Examination
- Final merit uses CBT-II Part-A and CBAT scores in a 50:50 ratio.
- Shortlisted applicants must complete document verification and meet the A-1 medical standard.
