Shorthand Test Steps
- First, candidates hear a practice passage of 200–250 words at the same speed as the actual test. It is not typed or marked.
- After a gap of 2–3 minutes, the actual passage is read at a steady speed. It has markings after every 80–100 words.
- Candidates then get 5 minutes to read their notes before typing the passage on a computer.
Computer Test Rules
- Use the same language as your shorthand test.
- Hindi typing uses Kruti Dev 010. English typing uses Calibri.
- The required minimum computer speed is 8000 key depressions per hour.
- The Efficiency paper checks word-processing tasks, including text and paragraph formatting, page setup, tables and letters.
How Errors Are Counted
| Type of Error | How It Is Treated |
|---|---|
| Full error | Leaving out or replacing a word or figure, or spelling a word incorrectly. |
| Partial error | Incorrect punctuation, capital or small letters, or paragraph indentation. Every 2 partial errors equal 1 full error. |
| Allowed error margin | Errors up to 5% are allowed. Errors above this are taken off the word count before speed and marks are worked out. |

- Candidates are called in merit order. The number called is equal to the number of available posts.
Final Merit and Tie Rules
- Ranking starts with the combined marks of the shorthand test and both computer papers.
- When combined marks are equal, the candidate with more shorthand marks gets the higher rank.
