Eligibility Details

  • For Indian Military Academy (IMA): Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • For Officers’ Training Academy (OTA): Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • For Indian Naval Academy (INA): Engineering degree from a recognized university/institution.
  • For Air Force Academy (AFA): Graduation with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or a Bachelor of Engineering.
  • Final year/semester students are eligible to apply, but must show proof of passing before the SSB interview.
  • Minimum height required: 157 cm for males and 152 cm for females.

Selection Procedure

1. Application Process

  • Apply online at https://upsconline.nic.in.
  • Upload documents and Photo ID (preferably Aadhaar).
  • Applications cannot be withdrawn after submission.
  • Last date to apply is 17 जून 2025, रात 11:59 बजे.
  • No fee for SC/ST/Female candidates.

2. Eligibility Verification

  • Make sure you meet all eligibility criteria (nationality, age, qualification, etc.) before applying.
  • Eligibility is provisionally accepted at the time of exam.
  • Original documents are checked only after clearing the written exam and reaching SSB.

3. Written Examination

  • Conducted by UPSC.
  • For IMA, INA, AFA:
    • English, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics — 100 marks each, 2 hours each.
  • For OTA:
    • English and General Knowledge — 100 marks each, 2 hours each.
  • All papers are objective-type.
  • Negative marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Use only black ball pen.
  • Math standard: Class 10 level.
  • Other subjects: Graduate level.
  • No calculators allowed.

4. SSB Interview (Intelligence and Personality Test)

  • Only those who clear written exam are called for SSB Interview.
  • SSB has 2 stages:
    • Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) + Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PP&DT)
    • Stage II: Interview, Group Tests, Psychology Tests, and Conference
  • Interviewers assess Officer Like Qualities (OLQs).
  • You must carry original certificates to the SSB.
  • Risk of physical injury during SSB is the candidate’s own responsibility.
  • SSB marks are combined with written exam for final merit.

5. Medical Examination

  • Conducted by a Service Medical Board.
  • Candidates must be medically fit as per Army, Navy, Air Force standards.
  • Detailed checks on eyes, teeth, chest, bones, hearing, etc.
  • Minimum height:
    • Male: 157 cm
    • Female: 152 cm
    • Relaxation for certain regions/tribes.
  • Weight must be proportionate to height.
  • Eye surgeries like LASIK have specific conditions.

6. Final Merit List

  • Merit list is based on total marks in Written Exam + SSB Interview.
  • Tie-breaking rules are applied if marks are the same.
  • Final selection depends on medical fitness and number of vacancies.

7. Training

  • Selected candidates undergo training at IMA, INA, AFA, or OTA.
  • Marriage not allowed during training.
  • Training expenses (accommodation, food, medical, etc.) are covered by the Government.
  • Pocket money and clothing deposit to be paid on joining.
  • Financial aid may be available for low-income families.
  • Resigning during training usually requires refunding training cost.
  • Fixed stipend of ₹56,100/month is paid during training.
  • Insurance cover is also provided.
